sendai mediatheque has appliances to help visually-impaired persons read books and browse internet web pages. if requested, the staff will assist you in operating the appliances.

readers

to read normally-printed materials we have following readers:

• 9 magnifying readers (2 fixed magnifying readers and 1 portable readers in the reading area on the second floor, and one fixed reader in front of the art library on the 7th floor)
• 1 voice readers (the reading area on the 2nd floor)

to browse internet web sites and read normally-printed materials and data in Braille we have the following PCs and software:

• 2 personal computers especially designed for visually-impaired persons on the 2nd floor. included in these PCs are Braille display, OCR software, screen-reading software, screen-expansion software and Web site-reading software (other PCs have screen-reading software, screen-expansion software and Web site-reading software)

to read recorded books we can lend the following equipment:

• tape recorders and Digital Audio-based Information System (DAISY) players
