Soup's
On! CompuMentor names its new portal site -- TechSoup.org San Francisco, California, December 1, 1999 Is it soup time yet? Almost. In May of 2000, CompuMentor will launch the first-ever technology portal able to tailor technology solutions according to the users needs and solely dedicated to helping nonprofit organizations access technology and use it more effectively. Seeded with a recent $150,000 grant from the Surdna Foundation and a $50,000 Founder's contribution from Novell through Eric Schmidt, Chairman and CEO, TechSoup.org is simmering nicely. It's powered by CompuMentor, a national nonprofit based in the Bay Area, that has 12 years of experience providing nonprofits with access to hardware and software, technological support and technology consulting. TechSoup.org is designed to be the comprehensive resource for nonprofit Executive Directors, IT managers and staff looking for technology help, ideas, assistance, equipment, programs and advice. Next Steps: Content development is proceeding at a rapid pace under the direction of Sandra Whisler, our portal project manager. And now that we have a portal name -- TechSoup.org -- we are developing a logo and identity materials and soliciting individuals with strong marketing and technical capabilities to advise, assist and if appropriate, provide funding for the portal in exchange for site sponsorship (an opportunity for substantial visibility!). A Founders' Committee and an Advisory Committee are forming now. We have a $2 million development budget and are also kicking-off a major fundraising campaign. Please contact CompuMentor Development Director, Jim Lynch (jimlynch@compumentor.org; 415-512-7784 x 308), if you want to be in on the ground floor of TechSoup.org -- the first-of-its-kind site for nonprofits. Here's one case where we can't have too many cooks! |
